Proposed basic pin shoot rules and guidelines

ALL SHOOTERS MUST HAVE EAR AND EYE PROTECTION

Table: Using the current pin range with pin positions market on the table. Distance is 25 feet from shooting bench.

Shooters will shoot 2 positions with a reload or second unloaded pistol staged at the second position.

Pin type: Five or six full-size bowling pins for all calibers.

These guidelines can be found at - http://mrcompletely.blogspot.com/2005/07/basic-pin-shoot-rules-and-guidelines.html.

There is reference here to shooting 5 or 6inch bowling pin tops for use with .22 RF. To my knowledge our club has only

used full size pins and we have no tops in the pin shed.

There is a format listed for competition, however this is not a competition, but for practice only. There is a timing

section as well, but there will be no timing. The string of fire will be in consideration of the slowest shooter.

Start: Referee’s (ROs) commands are typically “Shooter to the line”, “Load and make ready.”, “Ready on the left.

Ready on the right”, and “Standby”. Shooters starting position can either be with gun touching the table or with the

handgun pointed down at a 45 degree angle. When the RO’s whistle or horn blows the shooters commence firing until the

RO signals again (after the last shooter finishes or in case of a malfunction etc.)

Once everyone has finished shooting the RO will instruct shooters to clear their weapons. The RO will then check

that each weapon is clear; magazines out, chambers clear, slide open; swing out cylinders open

or cylinders spun. Handguns will then be set on the table in those positions, pointed at a 45 degree angle

to the closest side burm so shooters can reset pins for the next shooters.

“Magazines: Rim fire shooters can load no more than 10 rounds in their first magazine.

Center-fire shooters can load no more than 8 rounds in their first magazine.”

Since this is practice only we could allow a maximum of 10 rounds per semi-auto no matter the caliber.

“Ammunition: Lower velocity center fire bullets can bounce back off a bowling pin with devastating results,

so full metal jacketed bullets are not allowed. Hollow points are OK.”

I propose only lead bullets be allowed, but am open to clarification on the hollow point issue based

on what was allowed semi-autos in the past.

It seems that some hollow points are fully jacketed – needs clarification.

There are other guidelines for classes but these will not apply for practice.

There are other sites that list regulations for magazines or speed loaders. I propose only one 10 round magazine

or loaded speed loader for each of 2 positions. Single action pistols will load from loose ammo when the command

to load is given.

All handguns will remain in cases or holsters or carried to the shooting position with slides back;

cylinders or loading gates open. Magazines may be loaded at the staging area where you sign up.

As I remember 5 pins are set up for 6guns and 6 for semi’s,
